Dismal state schooling
If you want to know of the ruling elites’ farcical commitment to the spread of education, you have only to listen to their tall talk and then look to the ground at the state schooling that is pathetically in dismal condition and becoming unchecked uglier irreversibly. As the Punjab hierarchy is presently entertaining the province’s citizenry exuberantly with the populist discourse of ‘danish’ schools for talented poor students, a national news agency has circulated a report about the predicament of state schooling in just a smallish remoter part of Sialkot district that tears apart this hierarchy’s pretence to the cause of education to expose it for what it really is. The picture of schooling in the area that the report brings out is a big shame on the name of education. And so disgraceful is it that it should send these trumpeting Punjab hierarchs into their official holes with their faces in mud and their mouths shut. According to the report, buildings of as many as 21 schools in this smallish area are in occupation, fully or partially, of politically-connected local influential people now for years. These include schools both for boys and girls. And though most are primary schools, a couple of high schools too are in the influential grab.
